Well today was chemo day.
They had to give me 10 units of insulin while I was there.
I got home, and checked my blood sugar around seven,
and had to go to the hospital to get more insulin as my blood sugar was 396.
I am fine now. So no worries okay?
But, I got some good news today.
I was told that most people that get my sort of cancer only lived 16 months.
Occasionally there are exceptional people that go over that.
My doctor told me that he believes I am one of these excedptional people.
Now the numbers he quoted me were not from just his office,
they are from the whole United States. So that was the good news I got.
Isn't that awesome news?
(((HUGS))) to all!

Maiden,
Well hell I could have told you & your doctor that lol. Glad to hear your sugars are under more control. I'm disappointed that your doc allowed you to go home before your sugars were under control.

Hope you are feeling better.

Yup, I am feeling right as rain, as the saying goes.
When they released me from the hospital, it was in the low 200's,
so I knew they would be normal soon. And I was right.
Its been testing right about 106-109 range after eating.
So, all is good there.

Today I see the pain specialist.
And on the 27th, I see my regular doctor.
I am a bit nervous about the last appointment,
as we are to discuss insulin for the days I do chemo.
Other then that, I am feeling great.
Sure looks like a beautiful, but hot day today.
Supposed to be about 90.
We are going to go to Wal-Mart after my appt. today.
My husbands dad is riding along with us, cuz he wants to do some shopping there.
Hope all of you are well and happy, and having a beautiful day!

Maiden,
Good luck with your appointment. Have fun at Wal-mart. It's a beautiful sunny hot day here as well. Bjorn has been such a big help. He's been helping me with the chores. The children have grown so much. I see the people they are blossoming into and I feel blessed.

You are very blessed Cori.
I'm glad you know that.

Well, I am to be on a sliding scale on insulin for the day I do chemo, and the day after it.
I am to stay on my regular diabetes meds all the other days.
So, not too bad.
My Vitamin D levels were low, so I have to take that for a year so far that I know of.
Everything else was alright.
Of course, I do not know how to give myself a shot, so my brother will be teaching me (he is an insulin dependant diabetic).
My next chemo is June 2cnd.
We will be trying to leave here on the 8th for your place Cori and Red.
(I will have to call you and let you know when for sure, after I'm done being sick from the chemo for sure)
Then from your place to get Ryan.
I can hardly wait.
I am so e xcited about finally getting to meet you guys.
I hope I will get to see Hawk and KoKo then as well.
I love all of you guys bunches.

Well, chemo went off without a hitch today.
I did find out one of the reasons my blood sugar went
so high the last time...they gave me a double dose of steroids.
This time when I checked, it was high, but not too bad, it was 216.
Had to give myself 4 units of insulin, and I'm pretty damn proud of myself.
I gave myself a shot, and had no problems whatsoever.
I am getting ready to check it again in about 45 minutes.
Should be fine. And if its noty, I know what to do now.

Hope all of you are awesome, and having days that are the bestest,
and nights that are oo la la Hot (in a good way mind you)!

Maiden,
I can't wait to meet you. Are the plans still on for the 8th of June? Let me know so I can make sure Koko & Hawk will be here. Do you need to spend the night? Let me know so I can make sure we get the air mattresses out.
Happy to hear the chemo isn't as often & that the insulin being on a sliding scale. I've never had to do the shots myself but that may be changing.
Hope you are well my friend.

Well our plans have changed again.
Melissa and Jesse will be moving here Wednesday,
so there is no need for us to go to North Carolina.
I was really looking forward to getting to see all of you guys. *sigh*
Maybe we can come for a visit at some other time.
I hope so anyways.
I am so very sorry about this Cori.
I just knew if I mentioned it, something would change the plans.

I have to have my pain meds, its not a pretty sight when I don't have them.
I would not have been able to enjoy the trip or getting to meet all of you.
I do want to come for a visit sometime though.
We will see what the fututre holds...

I used to be scared of doing insulin shots, but I find I needn't have been.
They do not hurt at all. The hardest part I have found is checking your blood sugar. Now, that hurts after a bit.
After you check your blood, four times a day, your fingers get really sore.
And I never could get blod from my arms like they say you can,
it just does not work for me. I dunno why.
I sure hope you do not have to do them Cori, or Willow, or any of you for that matter.
But I will say this much, it does give you a little more lee way with your diet.
Oh, I'm not talking eat a regular diet, and use insulin to control it.
But it does allow you once in awhile to have that oreo, or whatever, once in awhile.

So Willow? Why has Brian moved back home, or is that a sore suject?
I love you all, please take care of yourselves.

Maiden,
I'm doing ok. Not sure about where I am with the diabetes as I haven't tested in years. Still having some medical issues and Redd is pushing for me to see a doctor. Hoping to do that this up coming year and get things straight. I think at the least I need some help and may request to be put on glucofach (sorry not sure or the spelling). Kids are doing great although not allowing me to sleep (grrr). FF is reading so that is a good thing.
Hope you are doing well. Hope things get better for Melissa, Jesse and Ryan. I know they must feel much better being home again.

Its Glucophage. I am on Metformin, which is a generic form of it.
Its comes in different strengths.
It helps to keep the blood sugar regulated.
Another words, no crashes.

I have some good news for everyone!!!
Guess who is now engaged to be married!
That's right...Jesse and Melissa! They are planning for a Spring wedding.
Isn't this awesome news?

Hope everyone is well and happy.

One week ago I had to do a CT Scan with contrast,
to see where my cancer was at this point and time.
Well, I got the results of those tests today.
I am in remission!
My oncologist said it is very rare for anyone with
mestasisized colon cancer to go into remission,
with no trace of cancer anywhere in their body.
So rare, that in fact he has never seen it happen!
Now, I still have to go in every month for bloodwork,
and a PET Scan in October (its been 9 months since the last one).
He also said that I will have to make a decisiuon then.
I imagine the decision has to do with discontinuing the chemo.
So we will see when that time comes.
See? I told you I would beat this shit, and so far it is true.
Oh sure, I know it will come back eventually, but for now it is gone!
I feel like celebrating!
Needless to say, everyone here is very excited about it.

Hope all of you are well and happy!

[size=30]
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
by Washington Irving

A pleasing land of drowsy head it was,
Of dreams that wave before the half-shut eye;
And of gay castles in the clouds that pass,
Forever flushing round a summer sky.
CASTLE OF INDOLENCE.

IN the bosom of one of those spacious coves which indent the eastern shore of the Hudson, at that broad expansion of the river denominated by the ancient Dutch navigators the Tappan Zee, and where they always prudently shortened sail and implored the protection of St. Nicholas when they crossed, there lies a small market town or rural port, which by some is called Greensburgh, but which is more generally and properly known by the name of Tarry Town. This name was given, we are told, in former days, by the good housewives of the adjacent country, from the inveterate propensity of their husbands to linger about the village tavern on market days. Be that as it may, I do not vouch for the fact, but merely advert to it, for the sake of being precise and authentic. Not far from this village, perhaps about two miles, there is a little valley or rather lap of land among high hills, which is one of the quietest places in the whole world. A small brook glides through it, with just murmur enough to lull one to repose; and the occasional whistle of a quail or tapping of a woodpecker is almost the only sound that ever breaks in upon the uniform tranquillity.

I recollect that, when a stripling, my first exploit in squirrel-shooting was in a grove of tall walnut-trees that shades one side of the valley. I had wandered into it at noontime, when all nature is peculiarly quiet, and was startled by the roar of my own gun, as it broke the Sabbath stillness around and was prolonged and reverberated by the angry echoes. If ever I should wish for a retreat whither I might steal from the world and its distractions, and dream quietly away the remnant of a troubled life, I know of none more promising than this little valley.

From the listless repose of the place, and the peculiar character of its inhabitants, who are descendants from the original Dutch settlers, this sequestered glen has long been known by the name of SLEEPY HOLLOW, and its rustic lads are called the Sleepy Hollow Boys throughout all the neighboring country. A drowsy, dreamy influence seems to hang over the land, and to pervade the very atmosphere. Some say that the place was bewitched by a High German doctor, during the early days of the settlement; others, that an old Indian chief, the prophet or wizard of his tribe, held his powwows there before the country was discovered by Master Hendrick Hudson. Certain it is, the place still continues under the sway of some witching power, that holds a spell over the minds of the good people, causing them to walk in a continual reverie. They are given to all kinds of marvellous beliefs, are subject to trances and visions, and frequently see strange sights, and hear music and voices in the air. The whole neighborhood abounds with local tales, haunted spots, and twilight superstitions; stars shoot and meteors glare oftener across the valley than in any other part of the country, and the nightmare, with her whole ninefold, seems to make it the favorite scene of her gambols.

The dominant spirit, however, that haunts this enchanted region, and seems to be commander-in-chief of all the powers of the air, is the apparition of a figure on horseback, without a head. It is said by some to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper, whose head had been carried away by a cannon-ball, in some nameless battle during the Revolutionary War, and who is ever and anon seen by the country folk hurrying along in the gloom of night, as if on the wings of the wind. His haunts are not confined to the valley, but extend at times to the adjacent roads, and especially to the vicinity of a church at no great distance. Indeed, certain of the most authentic historians of those parts, who have been careful in collecting and collating the floating facts concerning this spectre, allege that the body of the trooper having been buried in the churchyard, the ghost rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head, and that the rushing speed with which he sometimes passes along the Hollow, like a midnight blast, is owing to his being belated, and in a hurry to get back to the churchyard before daybreak.

Such is the general purport of this legendary superstition, which has furnished materials for many a wild story in that region of shadows; and the spectre is known at all the country firesides, by the name of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow.

It is remarkable that the visionary propensity I have mentioned is not confined to the native inhabitants of the valley, but is unconsciously imbibed by every one who resides there for a time. However wide awake they may have been before they entered that sleepy region, they are sure, in a little time, to inhale the witching influence of the air, and begin to grow imaginative, to dream dreams, and see apparitions.

I mention this peaceful spot with all possible laud, for it is in such little retired Dutch valleys, found here and there embosomed in the great State of New York, that population, manners, and customs remain fixed, while the great torrent of migration and improvement, which is making such incessant changes in other parts of this restless country, sweeps by them unobserved. They are like those little nooks of still water, which border a rapid stream, where we may see the straw and bubble riding quietly at anchor, or slowly revolving in their mimic harbor, undisturbed by the rush of the passing current. Though many years have elapsed since I trod the drowsy shades of Sleepy Hollow, yet I question whether I should not still find the same trees and the same families vegetating in its sheltered bosom.

In this by-place of nature there abode, in a remote period of American history, that is to say, some thirty years since, a worthy wight of the name of Ichabod Crane, who sojourned, or, as he expressed it, “tarried,” in Sleepy Hollow, for the purpose of instructing the children of the vicinity. He was a native of Connecticut, a State which supplies the Union with pioneers for the mind as well as for the forest, and sends forth yearly its legions of frontier woodmen and country schoolmasters. The cognomen of Crane was not inapplicable to his person. He was tall, but exceedingly lank, with narrow shoulders, long arms and legs, hands that dangled a mile out of his sleeves, feet that might have served for shovels, and his whole frame most loosely hung together. His head was small, and flat at top, with huge ears, large green glassy eyes, and a long snipe nose, so that it looked like a weather-member perched upon his spindle neck to tell which way the wind blew. To see him striding along the profile of a hill on a windy day, with his clothes bagging and fluttering about him, one might have mistaken him for the genius of famine descending upon the earth, or some scarecrow eloped from a cornfield.

His schoolhouse was a low building of one large room, rudely constructed of logs; the windows partly glazed, and partly patched with leaves of old copybooks. It was most ingeniously secured at vacant hours, by a withe twisted in the handle of the door, and stakes set against the window shutters; so that though a thief might get in with perfect ease, he would find some embarrassment in getting out,—an idea most probably borrowed by the architect, Yost Van Houten, from the mystery of an eelpot. The schoolhouse stood in a rather lonely but pleasant situation, just at the foot of a woody hill, with a brook running close by, and a formidable birch-tree growing at one end of it. From hence the low murmur of his pupils’ voices, conning over their lessons, might be heard in a drowsy summer’s day, like the hum of a beehive; interrupted now and then by the authoritative voice of the master, in the tone of menace or command, or, peradventure, by the appalling sound of the birch, as he urged some tardy loiterer along the flowery path of knowledge. Truth to say, he was a conscientious man, and ever bore in mind the golden maxim, “Spare the rod and spoil the child.” Ichabod Crane’s scholars certainly were not spoiled.
